Vera Mont
Vera Mont was a versatile Canadian-based author best known for her imaginative short stories and charmingly quirky novels often blending mystery, whimsy, and speculative twists. Living in rural Ontario in a house she described as “complicated,” with five cats and seven doors, Mont wrote in her downtime, crafting tales that range from futuristic interior monologues to Edwardian-era conspiracies.
Her most recognized works include The Ozimord Project, a speculative novel rooted in alternate-reality intrigue, and Twillingmarche: A Novel of Intrigue and Romance, set in an Edwardian country estate filled with conspiracies, twists, and forbidden connections. Vera Mont also authored Tidy Killing, a meticulously plotted mystery taking place within a sterile laboratory, and The Trouble with Whatchamacallits, a whimsical children’s story about inventive young friends and a magical companion.
In her short fiction, such as the collection Ramblings: Stories of Past, Present and Future, Mont delighted readers with unpredictable narratives—from alien visits and monastic reflections to time travel and quirky animal characters—demonstrating her flair for emotional depth and offbeat humor.
Though her passing was announced in June 2025 due to a sudden illness, her legacy lives on through her distinctive voice—a blend of speculative imagination, heartfelt curiosity, and playful mystery that continues to capture readers’ hearts.
