Raymond J. Klein
Raymond J. Klein (born 1932) is a celebrated American commercial photographer, author, and visual storyteller whose career spans decades of innovation in lighting, composition, and creative imagery. His passion began at age 14 after discovering his father’s Kodak camera—leading to early newspaper publications and, soon after, a role in a U.S. Air Force photo unit during the Korean War.
Following his military service, Raymond transitioned to documenting missile launches at Cape Canaveral, then built a distinguished career in advertising photography. His specialty in dynamic lighting and imaginative techniques earned him industry acclaim and exhibitions in galleries nationwide.
In his later years, Raymond turned his craft inward through the lens of authorship. Illuminations: Earning a Living with Dynamic Photography chronicles his journey from hobbyist to professional, blending memoir with practical advice—earning a glowing review from Readers’ Favorite for its inspiring narrative and technical insight.
He continued sharing his expertise in Visions of Light (2019), a visually stunning collection pairing abstract photography with poetry, praised by Kirkus as "an intriguing collection that may inspire experimentation". His book Aspirations (2021) offers actionable guidance for budding photographers to pursue creative commercial work. In 2024, Imaginations further explored the intersection of art and commerce in photography.
Now retired in Vancouver, Washington, Raymond remains active in local gallery circles while mentoring emerging artists. With over half a century of innovation behind him, his work continues to inspire photographers and art enthusiasts alike.
