Jack Winnick
Gregory Jack Winnick (born in Chicago) is a distinguished academic-turned-novelist whose career spans chemical engineering, aerospace consulting, and international thriller writing. After earning his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois/Oklahoma, he spent over 20 years as a professor at Georgia Tech and lectured at the University of California, Berkeley, and UCLA. A recognized expert in thermodynamics and electrochemical engineering, he has authored a widely used textbook, published hundreds of technical articles, and holds multiple patents.
Drawing on his tech and engineering background—and his real-world experience as a NASA manned spacecraft consultant and Middle East project director—Winnick debuted in fiction with East Wind (2010), the first of his "Lara & Uri" series. The book introduces an FBI–Mossad duo racing to stop a nuclear-terror threat, launching a tightly wound saga through Devil Among Us (2013), Devil in False Colors (2016), The Date Farm (2018), and Waterworks (2020).
Each novel blends technothriller tension with geopolitical intrigue. For example, The Date Farm pits Lara and Uri against a terror plot tied to real-world events—praised by reviewers as suspenseful and hard to set aside. His science credentials lend authenticity to biochemical and nuclear threat scenarios, while his character-driven storytelling and global settings elevate these beyond mere thrillers.
Outside of fiction, Winnick remains deeply connected to his engineering roots: he consults for NASA and industries like oil, nuclear energy, aerospace, and power systems, and continues to influence professional and academic fields.
An avid scuba diver and weekend tennis player, he lives in Los Angeles and is active in pro‑Israel advocacy organizations. His work reflects a unique synthesis of scientific rigor and fast-paced drama—a hallmark of his writing and life.
